Martin Frič [ ˈmartʲin ˈfritʃ ] (born March 29, 1902 in Prague ; † August 26, 1968 there ) was a Czech film director.

Life

Just like his colleague and compatriot Karel Lamač , Martin Frič, who is often referred to in titles as Mac Fric or Martin Fritsch , began his film career as a supporting actor and author (1922). In 1928 he directed the love story Páter Vojtech for the first time. Numerous other directorial works followed, including several German-Czech co-productions, such as the character drama Das Gäßchen zum Paradies, starring Hans Moser in the leading role . After Czechoslovakia was broken up in 1939 and the Prague-Film AG was established , Frič was forced to work under the conditions of Nazi German rule. After the Second World War , Martin Frič directed 42 other films, for which he often wrote the script himself. After the end of the Prague Spring with the invasion of Soviet troops, he committed suicide.
