Martin Gruber (surgeon)

Martin Gruber (born May 4, 1968 in Baden ) is an Austrian specialist in orthopedics and orthopedic surgery, with an additional subject in sports orthopedics, and a team doctor for the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) .

Life and education

After studying at the Medical University of Vienna , he completed his specialist training at the University Clinic for Orthopedics at the Vienna General Hospital . He devoted his research work in animal experiments to autologous cartilage cell transplantation . As a doctor, he worked at the Heeresspital Vienna , Landesklinikum Lilienfeld , Klinikum Freistadt , Otto Wagner Spital and the University Hospital Krems, among others .

In 2011 he founded the Alserstraße Medical Center (MZA) . In 2013, the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) engaged Gruber as the medical supervisor of the men's World Cup team. In 2016 he founded the sports hall in Vienna , where he brought the "Mov-nat" training concept from the USA to Austria for the first time.

Work and medical focus

Gruber specializes as a surgeon in sports orthopedic reconstructive interventions in the area of ​​the lower extremities , such as autologous and homologous cartilage cell and meniscus transplants , correction of the leg axis ( adjustment osteotomies ), restoration of the cruciate and collateral ligaments as well as partial or total endoprosthetic surface replacement of joints.

Martin Gruber has been looking after the men's national ski team of the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) since 2005 . From 2013 to 2019 he was the team doctor for the Hahnenkamm races in Kitzbühel . As part of his work as an ÖSV doctor, he advised and treated Klaus Kröll , Michael Walchhofer and Hermann Maier, among others . Gruber was named Chief Medical Officer of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in 2017 . Since 2018 he has been responsible for the Vienna Beach Major tournament as the tournament doctor .
