Martin Heße (politician)

Martin Heße (born May 4, 1933 in Magdeburg ) is a former German politician ( SED ). From 1987 to 1989 he was State Secretary in the Ministry for Heavy Machinery and Plant Engineering in the GDR .

Life

The son of a businessman and a kindergarten teacher attended elementary school and worked as a farm worker in 1947/48. From 1948 to 1950 he learned the profession of bricklayer. He joined the FDJ in 1949 and was an instructor in the FDJ district leadership in Wernigerode from 1950 to 1952 . From 1952 to 1957 he acted as secretary and 1954/55 as first secretary of the FDJ city administration in Magdeburg. In 1954 he became a member of the SED.

In 1958/59 he qualified as a steelworker at VEB heavy machinery construction "Ernst Thälmann" Magdeburg, became 1st smelter and 1960 master craftsman. He passed a distance learning course at the engineering schools in Leipzig and Riesa as an engineer-economist. In 1962 he became head foreman, in 1964 deputy section manager of the steel foundry and later deputy operations manager at the Ernst Thälmann factory in Magdeburg. From 1966 to 1969 he was one of the deputy party secretaries of the SED of the Ernst-Thälmann-Werk. From 1969 to 1973 he was a political employee of the SED district leadership in Magdeburg. He completed a distance learning course at the party college "Karl Marx" in 1973 as a graduate social scientist. From December 1973 to July 1979 he was the successor to Hans Winterfeld, party organizer of the SED Central Committee and party secretary of the Works Party Organization (BPO) of the heavy engineering combine "Ernst Thälmann" (SKET). Heße was a member of the SED district leadership in Magdeburg from February 1974 to December 1987.

On July 3, 1979 he was appointed by Minister Gerhard Zimmermann as general director of the VEB heavy machinery construction combine "Ernst Thälmann" Magdeburg (successor to Eckhard Netzmann ). As chairman of the social council of the Technical University of Magdeburg , he was awarded an honorary doctorate on March 24, 1987 by the TU Magdeburg.

Because of his appointment as State Secretary in the Ministry for Heavy Machinery and Plant Construction of the GDR, he was recalled on July 8, 1987 by Minister Hans-Joachim Lauck as General Director of SKET. He retained the position of State Secretary with responsibility for foreign trade and sales until December 1989.

After the reunification in the GDR he returned to Magdeburg and became chairman of the management board of ASUG Antriebstechnik GmbH.
