Martin Hielscher

Martin Hielscher (* 1957 in Hamburg ) is a German publisher , author , critic , translator and honorary professor at the Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg .

Life

Martin Hielscher studied modern German literature and philosophy at the University of Hamburg and received his master's degree there in 1985. In 1987 he was with Karl Robert Mandelkow with his dissertation on quoted modernity. Poetic experience and reflection in Wolfgang Koeppen's post-war novels and did his doctorate in youth .

From 1985 to 1991 Hielscher worked as a lecturer, translator, editor, literary critic and author. From 1992 to 1993 he was responsible for German-language and foreign literature at Luchterhand Literaturverlag . At Kiepenheuer & Witsch Verlag, he was the editor in charge of German-language literature between 1994 and 2001. Since 2001 he has been working in Munich at CH Beck Verlag as a program manager for fiction.

Hielscher was visiting professor at Washington University in St. Louis in 1998 and at the German Literature Institute at Leipzig University in 2001. He teaches as a lecturer at Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and since 2007 as honorary professor at Otto Friedrich University in Bamberg .

He is a member of the PEN Center Germany .
