Quotes

"Nobody has done so much for social psychology in Germany as Martin Irle."

- Fritz Strack on the occasion of the award of an honorary doctorate to Daniel Kahneman , University of Würzburg , July 12, 2004

"At the end of the seventies, Martin Irle made a casual assessment on the A4 corridor, which turned out to be a clairvoyant sign: Surveys are quasi-experiments with self-selection of the test subjects without replication."

- Karl Ulrich Mayer in “Empirical Social Research in the Nineties” : “ZUMA-Nachrichten” No. 45, vol. 23, November 1999, pp. 32–43

Honors

The European Association of Social Psychology (EASP) honored Martin Irle with the Jean-Paul Codol Award at its conference in Würzburg in 2005:

“... in particular the Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 24 on the subject of 'decision-making behavior' initiated by Professor Irle developed into a new generation of German social psychology and thus one of the most successful Collaborative Research Centers in the history of the German Research Foundation (DFG). As long-time spokesman for the SFB 24, Professor Irle promoted the networking of young researchers with the most internationally outstanding social psychologists at the time, such as Leon Festinger , Henri Tajfel or Harold Kelley, and in this way helped his employees to achieve extraordinary careers. Many of these now occupy top scientific positions in research and teaching. Professor Irle has thus contributed to the global visibility of German and European social psychology - this is also the verdict of the jury. "

The German Society for Psychology honored Irle's work with a prize named after him. The Martin Irle Prize honors psychological scientists who, as mentors, have enabled and motivated students, doctoral candidates and post-doctoral candidates to embark on a scientific career in psychology. The Martin Irle Prize is endowed with prize money of 1,000 euros and was first awarded on the occasion of the 50th congress of the German Society for Psychology in Leipzig in 2016.
