Martin Jones (pop singer)

Martin Jones (born March 24, 1956 in Liverpool ) is a musician, singer and presenter who grew up in the German Democratic Republic .

His parents moved to the GDR in 1959 because his father was offered a teaching position at the university in Halle (Saale) . Jones, the youngest of three sons, learned guitar at the local conservatory. After finishing school and completing an apprenticeship, he studied singing and guitar at the Music Academy in Leipzig .

In 1982 Jones founded the M. Jones Band, whose music included elements from country, Irish folklore, pop and rock. Other members of the band were Lutz Möhwald (drums, harmonica), Matthias Keppler (bass, vocals) and Sander Lueken (keyboard, flute, vocals). Jones was the lead singer and also played the guitar, banjo and harmonica. The lyrics of their songs came partly from Werner Karma and Kurt Demmler . The group's best-known song, Nacht aus Schwarze Velvet , became a GDR radio hit in 1985 and appeared on several hit compilations in the following years. In 1988 the M. Jones Band released their first LP Herzschlag on Amiga . Due to the turnaround and the cultural subsidies that ended with it, the band broke up in 1990. A later comeback attempt did not succeed.

After that, Jones began working as a radio host. He moderates the music program Country Evening on MDR 1 Radio Sachsen-Anhalt . He also went on tour with the country band Steam Country.

In 2004 Jones began a solo career as a musician. First he released a remake of Night of Black Velvet and other singles. In 2005 his first solo album came more it is not the label Xenia Records (JAY KAY Music Entertainment) out, inter alia, a cover song of Karat -Hits Märchenzeit contains. In 2008 the series 60 Years of Amiga released a CD with songs from Herzschlag , unpublished material from the M. Jones Band and songs by the soloist Jones. It came in a box of three with albums from Wahkonda and Dialog . From the beginning of 2009 to 2012 Jones was the singer and guitarist of the Two Riders Band. In 2010 his double album New Life was released . In 2013 he switched to SOLIS, a sub-label of Palm Records.
