Martin Karren

Martin Karren (born June 9, 1962 in Saarbrücken-Ensheim ) is a German CDU politician and a member of the Saarland state parliament .

education and profession

Karren graduated from secondary school in St. Ingbert in 1978 and then successfully completed an apprenticeship as a wholesale and foreign trade clerk from 1978 to 1981. From 1982 to 1983 he then did his military service. From 1983 to 1984 attending the technical college for economics and then from 1984 to 1988 studying business administration at the technical college, with the degree of business administration. From 1988 to 1993 he studied law at Saarland University and passed the first state examination in law. From 1981 to 1982 he worked as a commercial clerk in the trade. From 1993 to 1999 he was employed in auditing and management consultancy. From 1996 to 2004 he was managing partner of a service and trading company.

Party career, offices and mandates

Karren joined the CDU Ensheim in 1989 and became secretary in the CDU District Association of the CDU Ensheim in 1990. Since 1991 he has been the local chairman of the CDU Ensheim and since 1992 economic advisor in the CDU district association Saarbrücken-Stadt. Since 1996 he has been a consultant for economic policy in the regional executive committee of the CDU Saar. From 1994 to 1999 he was a member of the Halberg District Council of the state capital Saarbrücken. He has been a member of the Saarbrücken city council since 1999, where he has been parliamentary group chairman since 2001 and also a member of the state parliament since 1999. In 1999 he was also the state chairman of the Saarland Junior Chamber. In 2000 he was then deputy federal chairman of the Wirtschaftsjunioren Germany (WJD) and finally in 2001 federal chairman of the WJD.

In 2009, Karren was appointed State Secretary in the Ministry of Labor, Family, Prevention, Social Affairs and Sport in the Müller III cabinet in Saarland . At the suggestion of Thomas Kleist , director of the Saarländischer Rundfunk , its board of directors appointed Karren at the beginning of August 2011 as the station's new administrative and operations director. Karren thus follows the long-time administrative director Norbert Holzer. He started his new position in January 2012.
