Coalition negotiations

After the state elections on August 30, 2009, there were several options for forming political coalitions . Resignation of Peter Müller

On January 22, 2011, Müller announced that he would retire from the office of Prime Minister during the year. Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer was named as the designated successor . On May 2, 2011, the Jamaica coalition agreed to elect Kramp-Karrenbauer as the first female Prime Minister of Saarland at a special session of the state parliament on August 10, 2011.
