Martin Klewitz

Martin Klewitz (born February 26, 1917 in Mühlhausen / Thuringia ; †  December 18, 2013 in St. Ingbert ) was a German art historian and state curator in Saarland from 1966 to 1982 .

Life

After graduating from high school in Schönebeck (Elbe) in 1936 , he completed a degree in electrical engineering at the TH Hannover in 1948. In addition (Hanover) and afterwards he studied art history at the TH Darmstadt . He finished his studies in 1952 with his doctorate on the collegiate church of St. Peter and Alexander zu Aschaffenburg. From 1952 he worked in the State Conservatory Office of Saarland , which he headed as the successor to the prehistorian Reinhard Schindler from 1966 to 1982. During this time he led u. a. carried out an archaeological study of Mettlach Abbey .

Martin Klewitz had been a member of the German Good Templar Order since his youth , of which he was a board member from 1963 to 1979 and which he headed from 1971 to 1979. From 1963 he was honorary chairman of the Saarland regional association of the German Parity Welfare Association and from 1971 to 1989 of the Rhineland-Palatinate / Saarland regional association, after which he was appointed honorary chairman of this regional association.

Martin Klewitz was also known as an active amateur radio operator and could be reached under the phone number DK4XM.
