Martin Klose

Martin Klose (* 1957 in Gernsheim ) is a German moral theologian and university professor. He has been the rector of the Catholic University of Mainz since 2014 .

Life

Martin Klose began his academic career with a degree in philosophy at the Philosophical-Theological University of Sankt Georgen in Frankfurt am Main . He then studied Catholic theology at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . After his ordination in 1983 he worked as a chaplain in the parish of the St. Rabanus Maurus Church and as a repetiteur for philosophy at the Episcopal Seminary in Mainz .

1985 followed a postgraduate course at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, where he studied philosophical and theological ethics under the guidance of Bruno Schüller SJ . This was followed by further positions as a research assistant and as a lecturer in moral theology and Christian social doctrine at the episcopal seminar for parish pastoral and religious education in Mainz and in 1990 he was appointed pastor.

In 2004 Martin Klose was appointed professor for moral theology and Christian social studies at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in Mainz and has since taught in all three departments (social work, practical theology and health and care) at the university. In 2014, Martin Klose was elected rector of the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in Mainz and was confirmed in office in 2017.

Scientific work

Martin Klose received his doctorate from the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Mainz under Johannes Reiter . His doctoral thesis entitled “Because God commands it through the Church”. The moral theologian Christoph Moufang (1817-1890) in the field of tension of his time. In 2002 he completed a contribution to the history of neo-Scholastic moral theology .
