Martin Krampen

Martin Krampen (born March 9, 1928 in Siegen ; † June 18, 2015 in Ulm ) was a German designer , artist and semiotic , he was a student and lecturer at the Ulm School of Design .

Life

Martin Krampen studied theology , psychology and art history at the universities of Tübingen , Heidelberg and Rome from 1948 to 1950 . In 1950 he moved to Florence, where he studied painting and became a supporter of the Movimento per l'arte concreta movement and opened an art gallery. After studying in Florence , Krampen completed an internship at Otl Aicher's graphic design office in Ulm in autumn 1953 , before enrolling at the Ulm School of Design (HfG) in December 1953 , where he studied visual communication . He completed his studies in 1957 with a diploma. He later also worked as a lecturer at the HfG. He also studied psychology and communication science at Michigan State University , where he received his doctorate in 1962.

He held various professorships in design and psychology in the USA and Canada. From 1972 to 2005 he was a lecturer at the Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Design . Martin Krampen has been an honorary member of the German Society for Semiotics since 1993 .
