Martin Krumbiegel

Martin Krumbiegel (* 1963 in Leipzig ) is a German musician and musicologist. Like Sebastian Krumbiegel , his three years younger brother, he comes from a music-loving family.

Life

From 1973 to 1982 he was a member of the Leipzig Thomanerchor . He completed his studies in musicology at the University of Leipzig in 1994 with a doctorate. In addition, Krumbiegel completed private singing training with Andreas Sommerfeld.

Since 1987 he has been a concert and oratorio singer (tenor), a. a. with performances in the Leipzig Gewandhaus , the Schauspielhaus Berlin , the Semperoper Dresden and the Cologne Philharmonic . He regularly appears as a soloist in the Bach cantatas performed by the St. Thomas Choir. Foreign guest appearances have taken him to the Czech Republic, France, Holland, Sweden and Lithuania. The main focus of his singing activities are oratorios, cantatas and other vocal soloist chamber music genres of the 17th and 18th centuries.

He took an active part in international conducting courses (including during the Oregon Bach Festival in 1990 in Eugene / USA, conducted by Helmuth Rilling ) and is himself a leader in courses for choir singers and as a lecturer at working meetings on the performance of music between the ages of 16 and 18 Century u. a. invited by the Schütz Academy in Bad Köstritz.

Krumbiegel initially worked as a lecturer in music history at the Leipzig University of Music and was appointed as an adjunct professor at the University's Institute for Musicology on April 14, 2010.

He has been the artistic director of the Leipzig Oratorio Choir, founded in 1993. With this ensemble three to four performances of oratorios and choral symphonic works from the 17th to 19th centuries take place every year. After the death of Hans Grüß (1929–2001) he took over the management of the Capella Fidicinia Leipzig , a special ensemble for older music, especially from the 15th to 18th centuries. Performances with the ensembles have led to the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Philharmonie in Cologne, the Beethoven Hall in Bonn and international music festivals such as the Leipzig Bach Festival, the Göttingen Handel Festival or the Oude Muziek Festival in Utrecht and others. a. In collaboration with various ensembles (La Stagione Frankfurt, Berliner Barock-Compangney, Neue Düsseldorfer Hofmusik, Dresdner Barockorchester , Capella Fidicinia), guest appearances at the Handel House in Halle and in the Leipzig Bach Archive .

He is the artistic director of the Herrenwieser Vocal Ensemble, where 18 singers from all over Germany and Switzerland meet in the Oderbruch once a year and then go on a small concert tour through Brandenburg. The repertoire ranges from early baroque to Schütz, Bach, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and Brahms to classical modernism.
