Sebastian Krumbiegel (born June 5, 1966 in Leipzig ) is a German singer and musician . Krumbiegel is a singer in the band Die Prinzen and is active as a solo artist.

Sebastian Krumbiegel was born in 1966 in Leipzig as the son of the musicologist and former director of the Bach Museum Cornelia Krumbiegel - the daughter of the opera singer Philine Fischer - and the chemist Peter Krumbiegel. His older brother is the musician and musicologist Martin Krumbiegel , his sister Susanne Krumbiegel is a singer. Sebastian Krumbiegel's first name goes back to Johann Sebastian Bach . He grew up in a Christian home, but left the church in 1990. From 1976 to 1985 Krumbiegel attended the St. Thomas Choir and St. Thomas School in Leipzig . There he graduated from high school in 1985. In 1981, when he was still in St. Thomas, he founded the rock band "Phoenix" with Wolfgang Lenk .

Before and during his army service from 1985 to 1987 he sang with "Rockpol". From 1987 to 1991 Krumbiegel studied drums and singing at the Leipzig University of Music . During his studies he laid the foundation for one of the most successful German bands of the 1990s with the founding of the band “Die Herzbuben”. Wolfgang Lenk, Jens Sembdner and from 1990 also Henri Schmidt were there. In 1991 Tobias Künzel , who was previously with Amor & die Kids , joined the band . In the same year the band changed their name to " Die Prinzen ". The singles "Millionär", "Gabi und Klaus" and "Mein Fahrrad" came from his pen. In 1995 he married. In 1998 Krumbiegel founded the "Privy Councilor Club". In the same year he recorded the solo CD "Krumbiegel - Kamma mache nix", which was released in 1999, with the prince drummer Ali Zieme . In 2004 his second solo album Geradeaus abogen appeared , which was produced by Ralf Goldkind and recorded and performed live with Thomas (guitar) and Johnny Baumgärtel (dr.) As well as Knut Knutson (bg.). In March 2010 the CD Tempelhof followed , which Krumbiegel published together with the band Die Feinen Herren . The album was recorded live in the Candy Bomber Studios on the grounds of Berlin's Tempelhof Airport , with almost no digital technology being used. In the spring of 2010, the singer toured Germany with the Feinen Herren . Krumbiegel is still on the road with the Prinzen, who celebrated their 20th band anniversary in 2011.

Sebastian Krumbiegel sings the refrain on the first single Das alles ist Deutschland from the album Flersguterjunge by the rapper Fler . The title is a reinterpretation of the "Prinzen-Song" Germany .

Krumbiegel also appeared again and again on the canvas. In Mulan , the 1998 animated film by Walt Disney Studios, Krumbiegel took on the vocal parts of the character Chien-Po . In 2005 he played the role of ex-NVA officer Axel in the movie Max and Moritz Reloaded . In 2008, he took on a guest role in Kevin - The Vampire Documentary .

Other activities

After treating his son in an intensive care unit, Krumbiegel became the patron of the Ronald McDonald House in Leipzig in 2002 and sponsored an apartment for 15 years. He has been involved in the youth festival “ LEIPZIG. SHOW COURAGE. - Young musicians against violence and racism ”. But he also shows his commitment against the law as a supporter of the Amadeu Antonio Foundation , the Alliance Dresden Nazifrei , the Leipzig Refugee Council, the Cura Victims Fund and the Leipzig Local Action Plan. In 2007 (and for another 2 years) he was the patron of the Ecumenical Decade of Peace . He had joint appearances as Sebastian Krumbiegel & Kristof Hahn in 2007 as part of the campaigns Deine Wollen gegen Armut & MOVE AGAINST G8 . Since 2007 he has been one of the two patrons of School without Racism - School with Courage of the Pestalozzischule Sangerhausen. Also in 2007 he supported the campaign alliance Landmine.de by collecting more than 10,000 signatures against landmines and cluster munitions, which were to be handed over to the federal government, as part of a 1,000,000 signature campaign. Since 2009 he has been the patron of "Canto elementar Leipzig" (International Network for the Promotion of Everyday Culture of Singing). In 2015, Sebastian Krumbiegel took over the patronage of the 3rd edition of Nordakkord , the choir festival of the north German gay and lesbian choirs, which took place from August 13th to 16th, 2015 in Leipzig.

Sebastian Krumbiegel was a member of the 13th and 14th Federal Assemblies and took part in the elections for the German Federal President on May 23, 2009 and June 30, 2010 , respectively. He was nominated by the SPD parliamentary group in the Saxon state parliament .

Awards

  • On April 12, 2012, Krumbiegel was awarded the Humanism Prize of the German Association of Classical Philologists in Erfurt for his advocacy of civil rights and moral courage and for his social commitment, especially in dealing with young people .
  • On December 3, 2012, Krumbiegel was honored with the Federal Order of Merit.
  • In 2015 he received the Bambi for Music National

Trivia

For the cartoon series “ The Bamboo Bear Gang ”, Nena and Sebastian Krumbiegel are singing the theme song The Song of this World . The theme song and other songs were released on CD in 1996 - together with audio explanations of the cartoon character Wao Hao.
