Martin Pizzarelli (born November 1, 1963 in Paterson, New Jersey ) is an American jazz bassist .

Live and act

Pizzarelli comes from a family of musicians. The guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli is his father; his older brother John and one of his sisters, Mary, are also guitarists. At the suggestion of his brother John, he played the bass guitar as a teenager before switching to the double bass .

Pizzarelli was the bass player in the local band Bergen County , which later became the Phil Bernardi Band and the group Aziz ; with the single I Like Jersey Best they became known regionally. Since the early 1990s he has accompanied his brother in the John Pizzarelli Trio , with which various albums with pianists such as Ken Levinsky , Ray Kennedy and Larry Fuller were created. In 1994 he made his debut as a bandleader for Victoria Records (with Ray Kennedy and his father Bucky Pizzarelli) with Triple Play . He also worked for Harry Allen ( Tenors Anyone? ) And worked in groups around his father, such as the Pizzarelli Boys ( Sunday at Pete’s 2007, Desert Island Dreamers 2010). He can be heard on all albums of his sister-in-law Jessica Molaskey, as well as on the albums of Caterina Zapponi and Hilary Kole. In recent years he has also worked in the John Pizzarelli Quartet and in the Trio Mezzrow around Ed Laub (with Frank Vignola ).
