Martin Pronath OSB (born September 7, 1738 in Niederaichbach ; † January 5, 1790 in Prüfing ) was a German clergyman and abbot of the Benedictine monastery under Regensburg .

Life

Martin Pronath studied philosophy and theology at Weihenstephan Abbey and in Freising. After his profession in the convent in 1756 and the ordination in 1762 he worked as a theology teacher in the home study of his convent and in the abbey of Münsterschwarzach . Then he was secretary of the Bavarian Benedictine Congregation until he was elected abbot of the convent by his confreres on November 20, 1781. As an abbot, he paid particular attention to the promotion of scientific talent and activity among the monastery members; for this purpose he also built an observatory in the monastery. In addition, he was concerned about improving the economic management of the monastery.

A younger half-brother of Martin Pronath was the Bavarian landscape councilor Johann von Pronath , who played a key role in the re-establishment of the secularized Benedictine monastery in Metten in Lower Bavaria (1830).
