Martin Reimann SOCist (born April 11, 1798 in Oberrohrdorf ; † June 30, 1878 in Bregenz ) was Cistercian and abbot of Private Abbey Wettingen-Mehrerau from 1864 to 1878.

Life

Reimann joined the exemte Swiss Abbey of Wettingen in 1816 and became a priest in 1821. From 1828 to 1841 he managed the monastery property as cellarer . After the violent abolition of the monastery by the canton of Aargau in 1841 in the so-called Aargauer Klosterstreit , he had to leave the canton and, since 1844 Prior , looked for a new settlement with Abbot Leopold Höchle for years . After the monks had taken over the Benedictine Abbey of Mehrerau on Lake Constance, which had been secularized in 1806 , he helped to build it up and until 1864 directed the newly founded Latin school, today's Collegium Bernardi , which he also took care of as abbot (since 1864). In 1868 he was one of the founding members of the Association for the History of Lake Constance and its Surroundings . He died in 1878 after several strokes.
