The Martin River is a 35 km long left tributary of the Copper River in Alaska . The river was named in 1899 by Captain William R. Abercrombie .
The Martin River forms the outflow of the glacial edge lake below the Martin River Glacier . After just one kilometer, the slide glacier flows into the river on the right. The Martin River flows in a predominantly westerly direction from the Chugach Mountains . The Martin River finally flows into the estuary of the Copper River 30 km from the sea . Over the last 15 km, the Martin River splits into several arms. Almost 3 kilometers above the estuary, Sheep Creek , which drains the McPherson and Johnson glaciers to the north , meets the Martin River from the north .
