Hans Martin Rothkegel

(Hans) Martin Rothkegel (* 1969 in Hamburg ) is a Baptist theologian and historian and professor of church history at the Elstal Theological College .

Life

After graduating from high school at the Christianeum in Hamburg, Rothkegel studied Greek and Latin philology as well as Protestant theology and education . Following the first state exam, which he passed in Hamburg in 1996, he completed postgraduate studies in theology at the Prague Charles University and became a Doctor of Theology doctorate . The topic of his dissertation was: The Nikolsburg Reformation 1526–1535: From Humanism to Sabbatarianism .

From 2001 to 2004 Martin Rothkegel was a research assistant at Heidelberg University . This was followed by a position at the Hamburg Joachim Jungius Society of Sciences . There he arranged for the publication of the extensive Jungius correspondence. At the same time he worked on another dissertation on the topic: The Latin Correspondence of the Olomouc Bishop Stanislaus Thurzó (1471 / 72-1540) . This work was submitted to the Department of History and Philosophy at the University of Hamburg, which earned him a doctorate in philosophy in 2005.

After his second doctorate, Rothkegel switched to the Hamburg school service and taught there as a student trainee in the subjects of Latin and religion. He successfully completed his legal clerkship in 2007. From May to August 2007 he worked as a research assistant at the Philipps University of Marburg . In June of the same year Rothkegel was appointed professor of church history. At the beginning of the 2007 winter semester, he succeeded the retired Günter Balders .

His research focuses, among other things, on the historical Anabaptism in eastern Central Europe and the scholarly and scientific history of the early modern period .
