Martin Schäfer (politician)

Martin Schäfer (born November 12, 1951 in Schloßau / Baden-Württemberg ) is a German SPD politician . From 1997 to 2015 he was a member of the Hamburg Parliament .

Personal history

From 1958 to 1970 Schäfer attended elementary school and the Hohenstaufen grammar school in Eberbach . After graduation (1970), he completed a degree in mathematics and a doctorate Dr. rer. pole. Today he works as a research assistant at the Helmut Schmidt University (University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg) .

Schäfer joined the SPD in 1975 and has held various party offices since then.

Since October 8, 1997 he was a member of the Hamburg Parliament. There he was a member of the health committee, home affairs committee and the subcommittee on budget accounting for his group . In addition, he was a member of the monitoring body for the protection of the constitution. Schäfer was also a permanent representative on the budget committee. His political work focus is health policy; since 2010 he has been the health policy spokesman for his group and deputy group chairman. After Schäfer had been elected directly via constituency votes in the constituency of Rotherbaum-Harvestehude-Eimsbüttel-Ost in 2008 and 2011 , he ran in the 2015 mayor elections in 32nd place on the state list, but missed the renewal of the citizenship.

Schäfer is since 1979 member of the union public services, transport and traffic (OTV), later in the successor organization Ver.di .
