Petrus van der Aa
Petrus van der Aa , called Petrus Vanderanus in Latin, (* 1530 in Leuven , Belgium , † 1594 in Luxembourg ) was a Flemish lawyer .
Life
Petrus van der Aa was the son of Elise Blocx and Johann van der Aa, who came from a respected Flemish patrician family , attested as early as the 11th century . This had moved from Bruges to Brabant and branched out to Leuven, Mechelen and Antwerp . Whether the branch to which Peter belonged was Calvinist remains to be seen. Members of the family excelled in the battles of the Dutch against the Spanish.
Petrus van der Aa studied in his hometown, was in October 1559 Doctor of Laws and was 1562, when Johann Ramus (actually Johann tack) by lions after Douai was appointed as his successor at the University of Leuven , the professor of Roman law. Before October 1565 he married Margarete or Maria Vanden Broeck. On December 13, 1565, he joined the sovereign council of Brabant. On March 17, 1575, he received confirmation of the nobility with an improvement in the coat of arms at the imperial court. He was a favorite of the Viglius and was appointed President of the Higher Regional Court of the Duchy of Luxembourg and the County of Chiny in 1574 . He held this considerable position, raised to eques auratus on October 31, 1583 , until his death. Politically, he was one of the opponents of King Philip II of Spain.
Works
As early as 1558, before Petrus van der Aa received his doctorate, Stephan Valerius published his first work in Leuven, the limited edition Prochiron sive Enchiridion judiciarum with a preface de ordine judiciario apud veteres usitato . His second work Commentarii de privilegiis creditorum , published after the signature of the preface in 1560 at Antwerp, was the Tractatus tractatuum juris (Vol. 18, p 110ff.) And Gerard Meermans 1751-53 erschienenem Novus thesaurus juris civilis et canonici (Vol. 2, p. 671ff.) Reprinted. It was dedicated to Joachim Hopper and dealt with, among other things, the forms of procedure through which creditors could assert their rights and the subject of which heirs of deceased persons were liable to creditors. Nevertheless the author owes his great reputation less to these writings than to his practical work.
