Martin Schmidt (musician)

Martin "Schmiddi" Schmidt (* 1966 ) is a German musician ( mandolin , electric bass ) and sound engineer.

Live and act

Schmidt received classical training on the mandolin between 1975 and 1985. He was twice a federal prize winner in Jugend musiziert . Since 1981 he has also played the electric bass as an autodidact and soon dealt with contemporary jazz , new music and improvised music . He also worked on numerous projects with musicians from the fields of klezmer and rock music as well as for theater, radio and television productions such as the social evening by Hanns-Dieter Hüsch .

Together with Christof Thewes he founded the Duo Undertone in 1991 , which has been expanded to a quartet since 2002 with Hartmut Oßwald and Dirk-Peter Kölsch . The group presented a total of five albums, including a 2006 revision of Modest Mussorgsky's " Pictures at an Exhibition ", and performed internationally in clubs and at festivals such as the EBU Festival Marciac , the St. Ingbert Jazz Festival and Jazzdor in Strasbourg. He also worked in a duo with Olaf Rupp and Antonis Anissegos .

In 1995 he received the Neunkirchen district's cultural sponsorship award . Since 1999 he was involved in a software company in Cologne. He can also be heard on albums by Giora Feidman , Tomas Ulrich , the Musikverein Heillijewald or Phase IV . Since 2010 he has headed the label gligg records .
