What is essential about Schnur's work is the integration and connection of different levels of image and reality, in whose puzzling peculiarity the viewer is supposed to imagine his interpretation. In doing so, Schnur connects the autonomous layers of the picture in such a way that a coherent composition is created through their overall view. The background is usually a fantasy landscape, in earlier works sometimes also an urban landscape or an abstract pictorial space. In front of it, the artist places his protagonists, who are often depicted in a peculiar pose, usually appear turned away from the viewer and strangely apathetic. The emotional absence of those portrayed ultimately contributes to the fact that the depicted situation is never fully revealed. Ultimately, it is up to the observer to decide whether a moment of joy has suddenly evaporated or another shocking occurrence creates the puzzling atmosphere.

Last but not least, it becomes much more difficult for the viewer when Schnür depicts (broken) mirrors and other reflective surfaces in his work. It thus gives the impression that the artist wants to demonstrate a reflection of a fragmented reality that the observer encounters.

Schnur's pictures do not tell stories, because the viewer invents them himself, rather they create a feeling or a mood through which the content is conveyed.
