Martin Schulte

Martin Schulte (born March 30, 1959 in Hamm ) is a German legal scholar whose research focuses on constitutional, administrative, environmental, technical and foundation law as well as sociological theory of law. He has been a professor at the TU Dresden since 1994 .

Life

Schulte studied law, history and philosophy at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster between 1978 and 1983 . In 1985 he obtained his doctorate in law there (Dr. jur.).

After a visiting professorship at the Catholic University of Nijmegen (1989–1991), Schulte was head of the Freiherr-vom Stein Institute at the Westphalian Wilhelms-Universität Münster from 1992 to 1994 and completed his habilitation at this university in 1994 with the venia legendi for "Public Law and Legal Theory" .

Since 1994 he has held the professorship for public law with special focus on environmental and technology law and director of the Institute for Technology and Environmental Law of the Faculty of Law at the Technical University of Dresden. After a visiting professorship at Emory University in Atlanta (1998), Schulte was deputy director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Technology Research of the Philosophical Faculty of the TU Dresden from 1999 to 2005, from 2003 to 2006 Dean of the Law Faculty of the TU Dresden and a member of the Extended Senate of the TU Dresden (2009-2014).

Awards

For his monograph A Sociological Theory of Law , Martin Schulte received the Humanities International Award in 2011 for the promotion of the translation of humanistic literature from the German Book Trade Association. In 2017 he was elected to the German Academy of Science and Engineering .
