Martin Speicher (Mayor)

Martin Speicher (born May 31, 1951 in Püttlingen ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He was mayor of the Saarland city ​​of Püttlingen.

Life

Martin Speicher attended elementary school in Püttlingen and graduated from the Staatliche Realgymnasium Völklingen (renamed Albert-Einstein-Gymnasium in 2002). During his military service, he completed an officers' school in Bremen . At the Saarland University in Saarbrücken , he then studied German and Catholic theology for teaching. He was a teacher at secondary schools in Püttlingen, Riegelsberg , Heusweiler and Saarlouis . He was also vice principal at a secondary school in Saarlouis. He was skilled director , member of the Teachers plan commissions of the Saarland Ministry of Education and Sport and the Department of School and College in the Episcopal Vicar General of the Diocese of Trier and a member of the examination board for state examinations at the University of Saarland.

Martin Speicher has been married since 1974 and has three daughters.

Political career

In 1974 he joined the CDU in the local association Püttlingen. In the city council of Püttlingen, he sat for the CDU from 1987 to 2001, most recently as parliamentary group chairman. On September 23, 2001, he was elected mayor of Püttlingen with 50.2 percent of the vote and a voter turnout of 64.5 percent and thus succeeded CDU mayor Rudolf Müller, who had held the office since 1974. Martin Speicher took office as mayor on January 1, 2002. In the mayoral election on June 7, 2009, he also prevailed in the first ballot with 50.01 percent of the vote and a turnout of 66.25 percent. Upon reaching the age limit, he retired on May 31, 2019. His successor in Püttlingen was Denise Klein (SPD).

Suspicion of taking advantage

Since July 2012, the Saarbrücken public prosecutor's office has been investigating Speicher because of an initial suspicion of accepting benefits. Speicher is said to have been on vacation with a friend in the summer of 2007. The memory's vacation bills were apparently paid by the friend. Speicher is said to have returned the favor by using the Püttlinger fire brigade, by commissioning the weir to tap a public hydrant in order to flood the friend's swimming pool with municipal water free of charge. The investigation was closed in October 2012, the prosecutor saw no connection between the favors and the mayor's office.
