Martin Stegu (born November 6, 1952 in Vienna ) is an Austrian linguist and university professor for Romance languages at the Vienna University of Economics and Business .

Life

After graduating from the Theresianum in Vienna, Stegu studied Romance Studies , Slavic Studies and General Linguistics at the University of Vienna . He obtained his first degree - after internships at the Gymnasium Stubenbastei - in the teaching subjects Russian and French. He began teaching as part of lectureships abroad at universities in Nice and Zagreb .

In 1981 he received his doctorate with a thesis on past tenses in Russian, French and Bulgarian and took up a position as a university assistant at the Institute for Romance Languages ​​at the Vienna University of Economics and Business . At this he completed his habilitation in 1993 with a paper on the subject of texts, images, image texts: possibilities of postmodern semiotics and linguistics . In 1995 he was appointed professor for applied linguistics at the TU Chemnitz , where he worked until his return to Vienna in 2000. Since then he has been a professor at the Institute for Romance Languages ​​(French and Italian) at the Vienna University of Economics and Business . In 1994 he co-founded the Austrian Association for Applied Linguistics verba l as a national branch of the International Association International Association of Applied Linguistics (AILA).

Foreign and technical language didactics have been a focus of Martin Stegu's research from the start. Dealing with semiotics (especially text-image relationships) is the focus of numerous publications, as is dealing with intra- and intercultural communication problems. Work on language and communication knowledge by and for non-linguists, in particular on the role of foreign languages ​​in business, is another research focus. Martin Stegu has recently expanded his research interests to include queer and gender studies.
