Martin Stejskal

Martin Stejskal (born February 19, 1944 in Prague ) is a Czech painter, graphic artist and publicist.

Life

Stejskal graduated from the art school in Prague. In 1963 he made friends with the poet Karel Šebek , who introduced him to surrealism . As a painter and graphic artist, Stejskal has been working mainly surrealist since the 1960s and has been involved in the collective activities of the Skupina surrealistů v ČSR (German group of surrealists in Czechoslovakia ) since the 1960s . At that time he was taking part in regulated psychiatric experiments with hallucinogenic drugs . After the Soviet occupation in 1968, he was unable to exhibit in Czechoslovakia for a long time.

Stejskal is the author of an interpretive method known as “contouring” and illusions broken down into phases. In recent years he has also been using the computer for his creative work, both for static images, which he calls digitages, and for computer animation. In addition to his artistic work, he is the author of several books on mysterious places in Czechoslovakia and on local demonological legends.

Exhibitions

Stejskal exhibited at various collective exhibitions in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Germany, France, Switzerland, Great Britain and the USA. There it is also represented in several public and private collections.
