Martin Wigger

Martin Wigger (born April 22, 1964 ) is a German and Swiss dramaturge, curator and theater director. He lives and works in Zurich and Berlin.

Life

Wigger studied classical studies at the Universities of Marburg , Berlin and Hamburg , dramaturgy at the Hochschule der Künste (HdK) Berlin and theology at the University of Zurich .

After working as a dramaturge at the Landestheater Tübingen (LTT) and the Staatsschauspiel Dresden , he co-directed the “Neubau”, a premiere and world premiere theater in the Small House at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden (from 2005), with Markus Heinzelmann at the Jena Theater (from 2007) Tomas Schweigen the drama at Theater Basel (from 2012). Since 2015 he has been director of the cultural center Helferei in Zurich.

Martin Wigger is represented by the Hilde Stark agency in Berlin.

dramaturgy

In his theatrical work, Martin Wigger places a special focus on author and project theater, and he is also concerned with questions about new forms and structures of theater, especially through direct collaboration with people or teams who are looking for current artistic and political debates. The authors include Margareth Obexer (Der Zwilling), Rebekka Kricheldorf (New Happiness with a Dead Model) and Gabriel Vetter (Der Park). Fixed work contexts have arisen with the directors Amélie Niermeyer , Barbara Weber , Ulrike Quade, Markus Heinzelmann , Elias Perrig and Tomas Schweigen .

Since 2019 he has been on the board of the intercultural festival About us in Zurich.

Curation

Wigger has been heading and curating the Kulturhaus Helferei in Zurich since autumn 2015 (over 500 events per year in the genres of theater, performance, dance, music, literature, film, etc.). The focus is on cooperation and networking with the entire city of Zurich, but also with many international partners and institutions. Working partners include Andreas Liebmann , Martin Schick , Harald Schmidt , Dominik Locher, and Volker Hesse .

Teaching activity

Wigger regularly teaches in the theater department at the Bern University of the Arts (HKB) and in the dramaturgy department at the Felix-Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theater in Leipzig.

In addition to many other contributions in theater magazines, he will publish the volume “Who am I when I play” in 2020 together with Frank Schubert in Theater der Zeit .
