history

The Martinstift is in the southern part at the end of Eckernförder country road (number 200), this means that in 1846 as "the first rescue home for neglected boys and girls in Schleswig-Holstein Flensburg" from a group consisting of pastors Foundation citizens 300th Todesdatg Martin Luther founded has been. The reform home opened on July 8, 1847 after a year of construction and took in more than 2,200 boys and girls by the time it was closed in 1942. After the Second World War , an urban retirement home was located on the site until 1975. After a few years of vacancy , the North German Society for Diakonie eV used the house from 1982 as an asylum seeker home , which was initially intended to accommodate 55 asylum seekers (from over 30 nations) and was later fully occupied by 98 people. A 16 hectare farm was used to grow organic vegetables and to keep animals, including the Red & White Husum pigs , a back - breeding similar to the Husum protest pig .

In the same year (1982) the employment office there began to train young people in the fields of painting, carpentry, gardening and landscaping, kitchen and housekeeping as part of pre-occupational measures. The outdoor facilities of the facility included the Wilhelminental house and a furniture store in Burgstrasse , which was called Schapptüch (Sunday clothes ) in the Petuh language (see Guttempler-Logenhaus (Flensburg) ). Later, on November 1, 2010, mehrwert opened the other department store in Steinstrasse, where used furniture, household appliances and clothing are for sale on 1,800 m². The successor to the Martinstift since 2006 has been the Flensburg Training Association , an institution with 200 places for the Training North non-profit GmbH , which in turn belongs to the North German Society for Diakonia. "People with mostly chronic psychological disorders" have been working in a transitional workshop for the mentally ill on the grounds of the Martinstift since 1992 .
