Mary Brian

Mary Brian (born February 17, 1906 in Corsicana , Texas , † December 30, 2002 in Del Mar , California , actually: Louise Byrdie Dantzler ) was an American actress whose career reached its peak during the silent film era .

Career

The actress began her film career in 1924 at the age of 16 as Wendy in the successful film adaptation of JM Barrie 's Peter Pan , directed by Herbert Brenon . She was signed to Paramount Pictures , who announced her as The Sweetest Girl in Pictures and subsequently gave her many roles as the nice girl next door. In 1926 she had one of her greatest commercial successes on the side of William Haines and Jack Pickford in the school comedy Brown of Harvard . In the same year she was named one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars .

The actress made the transition to talkies without problems and became increasingly serious roles in films like The Man from Virginia on the side of Gary Cooper and Lewis Milestone 's comedy The Front Page on the side of Adolphe Menjou . Her best-known roles included appearances alongside WC Fields in Man on the Flying Trapeze . Overall, however, her career suffered from Brian's commitment to the role of the young naive, from which she could not break permanently even at almost 30 years of age.

Soon after 1935, Mary Brian went to England, where she made some cheaply made films, only to retreat to the stage afterwards. It wasn't until 1943 that she returned for a few character roles, only to take on television roles occasionally after 1947.

Mary Brian is remembered by a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1559 Vine Street. Mary Brian was married to the film editor George Tomasini until his death . She died in December 2002 at the age of 96.
