Mary Duncan

Mary Duncan (born August 13, 1895 in Luttrellville , Virginia , † May 9, 1993 in Palm Beach , Florida ) was an American actress .

Life

Mary Duncan had already gained as a teenager first stage experience and her first role in 1910 in the Broadway -Stück Welcome to Our City received. From the beginning of the 1920s she was regularly seen on Broadway, played a. a. in Face Value (1921) and New Toys (1924). After receiving good reviews for her portrayal of "Poppy" in the highly successful play The Shanghai Gesture , she switched to the film business. Her best-known films include Vier Teufel (1928) and Our Daily Bread (1930), both of which were directed by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau .

Her last film appearance was next to Katharine Hepburn in the drama Morning Glory (1933). In the same year she married the polo player and carpet manufacturer Stephen Sanford, whom she had met in 1931 through Marion Davies , and ended her acting career. The marriage lasted until Sanford's death in 1977.

Since their marriage, she lived in Palm Beach, where she was remembered as the organizer of large festivities and various charity events. She was close friends with Rose Kennedy .
