Maryanne Amacher
Maryanne Amacher (born February 25, 1938 in Kane , Pennsylvania , † October 22, 2009 in Kingston , New York ) was an American composer and improviser.
Life
Amacher received his first musical training in Philadelphia, later in Austria and England. From 1962 to 1964 she studied with George Rochberg and Karlheinz Stockhausen at the University of Pennsylvania , where she graduated with a bachelor's degree. She then worked in acoustics and computer science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign .
In 1967 she created the piece City Links: Buffalo , which lasts 28 hours and in which 5 microphones are placed in different parts of the city; it was broadcast live on the radio station WBFO . Later pieces also deal with the acoustics of places and architectural buildings.
Amacher was also a member of the improvisation ensemble Musica Elettronica Viva . She has worked with David Behrman , Scott Fisher , Mark Trayle , Frederic Rzewski and Alvin Curran . She worked as a composer-performer and in the field of sound installation and Ars Acustica. In 1986 she was a guest of the DAAD artist program in Berlin. She taught at Bard College .
In 2005 she received the Prix Ars Electronica in the Digital Musics category for her project TEO! A sonic sculpture .
