Marysville is a city in the US state of California in Yuba County , of which it is also the administrative seat . It has about 12,500 inhabitants (as of 2004) on an area of 9.4 km². The city is located at the confluence of the Yuba River with the Feather River . On the opposite west bank of the Feather River lies the much larger sister city of Yuba City .
It was founded in 1843 as New Mecklenburg by Theodor Cordua . It later became Marysville after Mary Murphy Covillaud , a survivor of the Donner Party , a settler group that only survived through cannibalism in the Sierra Nevada in the winter of 1846/47 . In the California gold rush , Maryville was an important place on the way to the northern gold fields.
