Mask of All Misery is the second studio album by the Australian thrash metal band Meshiaak . The album was released on November 15, 2019 via Mascot Records .

Emergence

In May 2017, the band split from their American drummer Jon Dette . He was succeeded by David Godfrey. As early as November 2017, the band published demo versions of new songs on their Facebook page before the musicians began the actual songwriting in January 2018. Singer Danny Camilleri explained that the band wanted to "try out what the musicians could do" on the second album. Among other things, he focused more on clear vocals, while the music varied more in tempo.

In December 2018, recording of the drums began in the Coloursound Studios in Melbourne , owned by Dean Wells. The album was produced by guitarist Dean Wells, while Jacob Hansen mixed the album . The band invited some fans into the studio for background vocals. The bass was recorded by Andrew Cameron, who also plays in Dead Wells' other band Teramaze . The recordings were finished at the beginning of May 2019. For the song Bury the Bodies one was music video rotated.

reception

According to Alex Heindl from the online magazine Stormbringer.at , the Australians are "combative", "like an epic battle wrapped in melodic sounds that are interrupted by hard riffs and strong Power Metal anthems". The lyrics are "perfectly balanced between melancholy, doom and adrenaline". Heindl awarded four out of five points. Sebastian Kessler from the German magazine Metal Hammer wrote that the band already in the intro miasma "demonstrates more musicality and melody than some genre colleagues". “Incredible melodies, grandiose dynamics and first-class guitar work” allowed parallels “to be drawn with the golden years of Metallica ”. However, the album would also “leave a certain constructed feeling”. Kessler awarded five out of seven points.
