Meshiaak ( Hebrew : Messiah ) is an Australian thrash metal band from Melbourne . The band is signed to Mascot Records and has released two studio albums so far.
history
The band was founded in 2014 by guitarists Danny Camilleri (formerly Danny Tomb) and Dean Wells. The two musicians who are friends played previously at 4Arm and Teramaze and had been talking for a long time about setting up a joint project. The band name was an idea of Dean Wells, who played a little with the word and then came across the Hebrew spelling of the word. The former Testament bassist Greg Christian, whom Camilleri knew from touring together, was later added. For the post of drummer , Dean Wells contacted former Slayer and Testament drummer Jon Dette , who initially had concerns about the great distance between his home in San Diego and Australia.
After Camilleri and Wells Dette played some demo recordings and flew to California , Dette joined as a permanent member. Greg Christian was no longer part of the band for unknown reasons and was replaced by Nick Walker. In March 2015, the band was signed by the Dutch record label Mascot Records. At the same time, the band recorded their debut album in the Jingletown Recording Studio in Oakland , which is operated by the band Green Day . The Alliance of Thieves album was produced by Camilleri and Wells and mixed by Jacob Hansen . The album was released on August 19, 2016. Meshiaak's first European tour in the opening act of Metal Church and an appearance at the Graspop Metal Meeting were planned for June 2017 . However, the band had to cancel the performances.
In May 2017, Meshiaak announced the split from drummer Jon Dette. The reason for the separation was that Dette lives in the USA and it was therefore practically impossible to rehearse properly and to be able to present yourself live to an audience with a good feeling. In addition, Dette did not allow the band to perform with another drummer. He was succeeded by David Godfrey. In January 2018, the band began work on a second studio album. Andrew Cameron, who also plays with Teramaze, joined the band for Nick Walker, who dropped out due to creative differences. Mask of All Misery was produced by Dean Wells and mixed by Jacob Hansen and released on November 15, 2019. In April and May 2020, Meshiaak will tour North America with The Black Dahlia Murder and Municipal Waste in the opening act for Testament .
style
Meshiaak play melodic thrash metal and refer to albums like Ride the Lightning by Metallica , Rust in Peace by Megadeth , South of Heaven by Slayer and Burn My Eyes by Machine Head on their website . Holger Stratmann from the German magazine Rock Hard compared Meshiaak with Grip Inc. For Andreas Stappert from the German magazine Deaf Forever, "the band stirs fast-moving reinforced concrete with a rich groove factor". Bay Area thrash metal would "meet a machine-head bulldozer ". Matthias Weckmann from the German magazine Metal Hammer described the music as a mixture of modern metal, thrash, nineties Metallica and Avenged Sevenfold smash with "brute good hooklines ". Singer Danny Camilleri always alternates between clear singing and screaming and is compared to Gus Chambers (Grip Inc.), when singing clear to Myles Kennedy from Alter Bridge .
