Alliance of Thieves ( English for Alliance of Thieves ) is the first studio album by the Australian thrash metal band Meshiaak . The album was released on August 19, 2016 via Mascot Records .

Emergence

After Meshiaak was signed to the Dutch record label Mascot Records in March 2015 , the musicians began working on their debut album. The songs for the album were written by guitarists Danny Camilleri and Dean Wells, with the theme song Alliance of Thieves being completed first. With the song material in place, Camilleri, Wells, and bassist Nick Walker flew to Oakland , California to rehearse with San Diego- based drummer Jon Dette .

At the suggestion of Dean Wells, drummer Jon Dette recorded his parts analogue on two-inch tape . Dette wanted to achieve a warmer, more powerful sound. Since the musicians in Australia could not find a suitable studio , the drums were recorded in the JingleTown Recording Studio in Oakland. The studio is owned by the punk rock band Green Day . Dette only started practicing his parts two weeks before the start of recording in order to have an aggressive and fresh feel for the songs. Dette's recordings were later not quantized or subsequently processed on the computer.

“We just wanted a big drum sound. There are so many great metal albums out there today, but they all sound the same in terms of sound. I wanted to have this authenticity. "

- Jon Dette

After Dette had recorded the drums, the three other musicians flew back to Australia to finish recording in the Shredville Studio in Melbourne . The studio is owned by Dean Wells, who also did production. The production was very stressful for Wells because he was also producing the new album Her Halo for his main band Teramaze . In addition to guitar and the production, Wells also contributed some background vocals . The album was mixed by Jacob Hansen . For the two songs Drowning, Fading, Falling and At the Edge of the World were music videos rotated.

reception

Holger Stratmann from the German magazine Rock Hard described Alliance of Thieves as a "bang" and as an "explosive mixture that a Thrash fan should have heard in 2016". He also highlighted the guitarist Dean Wells, who, in addition to “smart leads ”, also “makes you sit up and take notice” with his understanding of melodies. However, Stratmann criticized the fact that "one sometimes misses the big cinema that the titans of this musical genre presented in their early works". Stratmann awarded 8.5 out of ten points for the “perfectly produced debut album”. Erik Tweedy from the online magazine Hard Rock Haven spoke of an "excellent debut album". The band doesn't need any comparisons as they “stand for themselves with excellent songwriting, structure and musical ability”. Tweedy also awarded 8.5 out of ten points. According to Audrey Gerrard from the online magazine Metal as Fuck , the album has not had a bad moment. Alliance of Thieves is a "masterful performance of four incredibly passionate metal musicians who collaborated to record an amazing album". For Gerrard, the album could "become a classic".
