Maslenica is a village in the Croatian municipality of Jasenice in the Zadar County on the Adriatic Sea .

The village is located under the Velebit mountain range on the southeast side of the narrow outflow of the Novigrad Sea , which leads to the Velebit Canal (the coastal waterway east of the north Dalmatian island of Pag ), opposite Novigrad . It is connected to the Zadar Peninsula by the Maslenica Bridge and the Maslenica Highway Bridge of the A1 . The karst river Zrmanja flows southeast towards Obrovac .

Historical

The place first gained fame because of its military importance during the Croatian War with the destruction of the Maslenica Bridge on November 21, 1991 and later from January 1993 by Operation Maslenica to relieve the besieged Zadar and to reopen Croatian access to central and southern Dalmatia.
