Mass dance scene
A mass dance scene is a scene in a stage work or a film in which a large number of people dance a common choreography at the same time .
Occurrence
Mass dance scenes have always been found in ballet , but they are also less common in opera . Almost every musical contains at least one mass dance scene, as well as film adaptations of musicals and films that are stylistically based on the musical. Examples of world famous mass dance scenes are:
- The “Railway Races” of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Starlight Express , danced on roller skates ( 1984 ).
- The joint dance scenes of the tap dance show Lord of the Dance by Michael Flatley ( 1996 ).
- The final dance scene of the Hollywood musical film version of A Chorus Line by Richard Attenborough ( 1985 ).
- The dance scene on the roof of a train in the Bollywood film Dil Se by Mani Ratnam ( 1998 ).
- The dance scenes in the music video of the song Beat it by Michael Jackson .
