Douglas Matías Arezo Martínez (born November 21, 2002 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan football player who is under contract with the first division side River Plate Montevideo . The striker has been a Uruguayan U23 international since January 2020 .

He is known in his homeland as El Búfalo (The Buffalo).

Career

Arezo comes from the youth work of River Plate Montevideo and was promoted to the first team squad for the 2019 game year. On July 14th (1st matchday of Torneo Intermedio) he made his debut at the age of 16 in a 0-0 draw against CA Progreso . On August 10, he scored his first goal for the first division team in a 2-1 away win against CA Juventud de Las Piedras . At that time he was already considered a regular under head coach Jorge Fossati . On August 24, he scored his team in the home game against Peñarol Montevideo to a 1-0 win and a week later he again scored the 1-0 winning goal against Danubio FC . With these three goals he contributed significantly to the victory in Group Serie A of the Torneo Intermedio. However, the final against the Serie B winner was lost on penalties against Liverpool Montevideo . He scored three goals in the first four games of Clausura 2019. In the rest of the season, however, he scored no further goal.

National team

Arezo played for the Uruguayan U15 national team . With the U17 he took part in the U17 South American Championship 2019 in Peru . On April 9, 2019, he scored a hat trick in the 4-1 away win against Ecuador . He scored five goals in seven appearances in this competition.

He has been a Uruguayan international since January 2020 .
