Matěj Stropnický (born September 18, 1983 in Prague ) is a Czech politician and film actor .

Life

Matěj Stropnický was born as the son of the politician and diplomat Martin Stropnický and his wife, the author Lucie Stropnická . His father was the Czech ambassador in Vatican City from 1998 to 2002 . Due to his father's occupation, the family often had to move and lived in Lisbon and Rome in the 1990s . After graduating from the French Lyceum in Prague, he enrolled at the Charles University in Prague , where he studied journalism and political science . After completing his master's degree, Stropnický was a member of the editorial team of a Prague daily newspaper for three years.

Matěj Stropnický is a member of the green party Strana zelených . In 2006 he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Czech Chamber of Deputies . His political program included preventing the US intended National Missile Defense on Czech land. Stropnický was also committed to the rapid withdrawal of Czech NATO soldiers from Iraq .

Stropnický has been a member of the Prague Municipal Council for the Strana zelených since 2006.

In addition to his political activities, Stropnický occasionally works as an actor. In 2008 he took on the leading role in the love film Máj by director FA Brabec . In 2011 he was Don Gaspar De Procida in three episodes of the TV series Borgia in front of the film camera.

He was chairman of the Greens since January 23, 2016. After the elections to the House of Representatives in the Czech Republic in 2017 , he announced his resignation on October 21, 2017.

In the fall of 2017, Stropnický openly admitted his homosexuality. At the same time he announced his relationship with the 11 years younger Czech actor Daniel Krejčík (* 1994).
