Matucana pujupatii is a species of plant in the genus Matucana from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The epithet pujupatii honors Shawintu Pujupat Dagses, a Peruvian boy Alfred Bernhard Lau accompanied during his tour in Peru.

Matucana pujupatii occasionally grows with slightly branched from the base, spherical to ovate, gray-green to blue-green shoots and reaches heights of up to 15 centimeters with diameters of 10 centimeters. There are ten to twelve straight, broad ribs that are humped. The curved, pliable, brown thorns are yellowish at their base and turn gray with age. The one to two central spines - which are occasionally missing - are up to 5 centimeters long, the six to nine radial spines 0.5 to 2 centimeters long.
The slightly curved, carmine-red flowers are 6 to 7 centimeters long and 4 to 5 centimeters in diameter. The spherical to egg-shaped, somewhat purple-green fruits reach a diameter of up to 10 millimeters.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Matucana pujupatii is common in the Peruvian regions of the Amazon and Cajamarca at altitudes of 1000 to 1500 meters.
It was first described as Borzicactus madisoniorum var. Pujupatii in 1971 by John Donald Donald and Alfred Bernhard Lau . Rob Bregman raised the variety to the rank of a species in 1988. A synonym is Matucana madisoniorum var. Pujupatii (Donald & ABLau) GDRowley (1971).
In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Near Threatened (NT)", d. H. listed as low risk.
