Matapédia is a municipality ( municipalité ) in the eastern part of the Canadian province of Québec .
Matapédia is located at the confluence of the Rivière Matapédia in the Restigouche in the south of the administrative region Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine in the regional county municipality of Avignon . The parish is 20 km west of Campbellton . The highway Route 132 connects with Matapédia Rimouski .
The community had 645 inhabitants at the 2016 census. The municipal area covers 71.55 km².
