Mathias Donix (born September 10, 1954 in Dresden ) was a football player in Dresden and Riesa . For Dynamo Dresden he played from 1973 to 1975 in the Oberliga , the top division of GDR football . He was a junior and young national player of the GDR football association .

Athletic career

Donix's football career began promisingly. As a junior player for SG Dynamo Dresden, where he started in 1965, he was part of the GDR junior national team from 1971 . On August 22, 1971, he played his first international junior match at a junior tournament in Romania. In the 0-2 win against Turkey, he was used as the central midfielder. On June 10, 1973, he was with the GDR juniors in the final of the UEFA youth tournament, the unofficial European championship in this age group. The GDR lost to England with Donix on the left side of midfield with 2: 3. By 1973 Donix had completed a total of 21 international junior matches. Then Donix was taken over into the squad of the youth national team , with which he played seven games until 1976.

Donix's career in the GDR league was only brief. The 19-year-old made his debut in the elite league of GDR football on September 1, 1973 on the 4th matchday of the 1973/74 season in the game of FC Karl-Marx-Stadt against Dynamo Dresden (4: 4) when he played in the 78th minute came on. It remained in this season with a short assignment. Otherwise he played with the 2nd team of the SGD in the second-rate GDR league . The 1974/75 season was just as unsuccessful, when the then official for Dynamo Dresden only completed three short assignments at the end of the season. In 1975/76 Donix played exclusively in the Dynamos reserve team, in which he was top scorer with 13 goals. His time with GDR league club Stahl Riesa was also characterized by little playing time. When the steel team won promotion to the league in 1977/78, Donix had only been used in nine of the 30 matches played in the championship and promotion round.

In the 1978/79 season Donix was part of the second-rate GDR league team FSV Lokomotive Dresden . There he managed to successfully gain a foothold. With the FSV he played as a midfielder until relegation in 1984 in the GDR league and then ended his competitive sports career.

Further career

In November 1985 he took up an activity in the sports department of the Technical University of Dresden , in which he later rose to become director of the university sports center .
