Mathieu von Rohr (* 1978 in Lausanne ) is a Swiss journalist . He is head of the “Abroad” department at Spiegel .

Life

Von Rohr studied German and history at the University of Basel . He initially worked for four years in the editorial department of the Basler Zeitung . After training at the Henri Nannen School of Journalism in Hamburg , he wrote for Die Zeit and Das Magazin, among others .

He has been a reporter for Spiegel since 2006. He initially reported worldwide for Der Spiegel, including on the Gaza war, from Kashmir, the drug war in Mexico and the Arab Spring - from Paris later mainly on French politics and society. In 2011 he became head of the Spiegel office in Paris, in May 2014 he took over the deputy head of the international department and in April 2019 the department head.

In 2009 he was nominated for the Egon Erwin Kisch Prize for a report on the drug war in the city of Ciudad Juárez , and in 2012 for a report on the origins of the Tunisian revolution in the city of Sidi Bouzid . In 2011, Inside the World , its portrait of Wikipedia and its actors, was awarded the Axel Springer Prize and the 2010 Golden Mole . In 2013 he and his co-authors received the Ernst Schneider Prize from Spiegel for the article The Cow Dealer , the reconstruction of a meeting of the European Council .

Since 2016 he has been one of the authors of the daily newsletter "Die Lage - Morning Briefing" from Spiegel and Spiegel Online .
