Matthew "Matt" Holland (born June 22, 1989 in Carshalton , Greater London ) is a British water polo player in the position of goalkeeper who played with the British water polo national team, which has not been represented at the Summer Olympics since 1956 , at the 2012 Summer Olympics participated.

life and career

Born in the early summer of 1989 in the London suburb of Carshalton in the London Borough of Sutton , Holland began playing water polo in his youth. Holland, a degree in sports science and sports psychology (Sport and Exercise Science) from the University of Leeds , has made its debut in the senior national team in 2008 at the qualifying tournament for the 2008 Men's European Water Polo Championship in Dubrovnik . In the last few years he played under professional conditions on a club basis with the water polo department of PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands and with Pays d'Aix Natation in the French university town of Aix-en-Provence . At Aix Natation , as the sports association is usually called, Holland quickly became a regular player in the goal of the French first division club. At the water polo tournament of the 2012 Summer Olympics , the United Kingdom, as the organizer of the Olympic Games, took part in the said competition for the first time in 56 years with a British water polo national team.
