Mattathias Pearson
Henry Pete "Mattathias" Pearson (* 1939 or 1940 in New York City ; † February 21, 2017 there ) was an American jazz musician ( double bass , arrangement , also vibraphone , piano , drums ).
Pearson attended New York schools before doing his military service. He then studied music education at Lehman College, where he completed his Masters. At first he directed a jazz ensemble called Afro Jazz Lab . Around 1969 he was in the recording studio with Eric Gale . From 1972 he worked with Rahsaan Roland Kirk , heard on his albums Blacknuss (1972), Bright Moments , Prepare Thyself to Deal with a Miracle (1973), The Case of the 3-Sided Dream In Audio Color (1975) and Other Folks 'Music (1976). He toured Europe with Kirk's band in 1972/73. Further recordings were made with Khaliq Abdul Al-Rouf (1979). In the field of jazz, he was involved in 25 recording sessions between 1969 and 1991. In the early 1980s he performed a jazz vesper with his own quartet in New York. He was a music teacher at Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn for 28 years.
