Matthew host
Matthäus Host (* 1509 in Wilmersdorf near Berlin ; † April 29, 1587 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) was a German Graecist and university professor.
Life
In 1527, Matthäus Host came to the Brandenburg University of Frankfurt accompanied by the sons of Straussberg's mayor Benedict Lindholz, a relative of his mother's . He heard from Jodocus Willich , acquired the Baccalaureat in 1532 and two years later the master's degree. In 1535 Hostus became Professor of Greek at the University of Frankfurt a. O.
In 1542 Hostus married the daughter Clara of the Berlin mayor Johann Harckstro. He had three sons and six daughters with her. Since, according to his own words, he could not leave them treasure, he dedicated one of his works to each of his children.
