Matthew Denmark (born December 30, 1980 in Petrolia , Canada ) is a retired American volleyball player .

Career

Denmark started his volleyball career in 1995. His first stop in Europe was the Portuguese club AA Alunos . He then moved to Puerto Rico to Naranjito Chengos. He found further engagements in Europe with CVM Tomis Constanța in Romania, with Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus and with the Greek clubs Panellinios Athens and Foinikas Syros . In the meantime, the middle blocker returned to Puerto Rico and played for Guaynabo Mets. In the United States he won the national championship three times from 2004 to 2006. In the 2010/11 season Denmark was successful with Unicaja Almería in the Spanish Cup, but missed the championship title, although his club dominated the league. He then played for SU Saragossa for half a year before the German champions VfB Friedrichshafen signed him in January 2011 to replace the injured Lukas Bauer . With the American, Friedrichshafen managed to defend the title. Denmark made five caps for the national team . In 2013 Denmark ended his volleyball career and returned to the USA.
