Matthew Rankin (* 1980 in Winnipeg ) is a Canadian film director , screenwriter and film editor .

Life

Matthew Rankin was born in Winnipeg in 1980 . He studied at the Department of History and Classical Studies at McGill University in Montreal and at Université Laval in Québec . In 2011 Rankin was a participant in the Berlinale Talents . After numerous short films, his first full-length film The Twentieth Century , a largely made-up, bizarre biopic about former Canadian Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King , who had been prepared all his life to one day become Prime Minister of Canada, was celebrated in September 2019 as part of Toronto International Film Festivals premiered before it hit select Canadian cinemas on December 13, 2019. In February 2020, screenings took place at the Berlin Film Festival , where it was also shown as part of the Teddy Awards , a separate competition.
