Matthias Baranowski (born February 8, 1967 ) is a former German soccer player .
The striker took his first steps as a soccer player at Hammer SpVg . He moved to Rot-Weiß Oberhausen through VfL Kamen in 1986 when he was nineteen .
Coach Christoph Daum brought the striker to 1. FC Köln in the 1. Bundesliga in 1987 . Pierre Littbarski called him "The Red Lightning from Oberhausen" , which probably alluded to his hair color and speed. At this time he also played his only game for the German U-21 national football team .
After he could not prevail in Cologne, he moved to FC 08 Homburg in 1988 , where he became a regular player. His scoring remained modest there with nine goals in 48 games. Three years later he was appointed at that time in the 2. Bundesliga ascended 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 awarded, which, however, decline of post again, so Baranowski for FC returned 08 Homburg.
In the 1995/96 season Matthias Baranowski was spotted again in the Oberliga Hessen. He played for SG Bad Soden from the second half of the season. Teammates were u. a. Martin Buchhold and Michael Wolf. He ended his career with the amateur club VfK Weddinghofen.
