Matthias Becker (born April 19, 1974 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

After playing in the youth teams of the DJK Zeilsheim, Matthias Becker came to Frankfurt Eintracht in 1987 . In the 1993/94 season he was initially accepted as a contract amateur in the team's professional squad. The talented striker made his Bundesliga debut on March 19, 1994 when he played against Dynamo Dresden on the 26th day of the season. He crowned a strong performance in the 29th minute of the game with his goal to make it 1-0 (Eintracht won the game with 4-0 goals). Having drawn attention to himself in this way, he was invited to the current sports studio of ZDF on the same day and scored five hits in the mandatory goal wall shooting - which set the record that is still in force. Until the end of this season he was used twice.

In the following season he mainly had to be content with the role of the joker , which he fulfilled in 11 short appearances with 2 goals. After the departure of star strikers Jan Furtok and Anthony Yeboah , he made his breakthrough in the 1995/96 season and became a regular player. However, his weak goal rate of only one goal in 23 missions contributed significantly to the relegation of Frankfurt Eintracht in 1996. Nevertheless, he remained loyal to the club and followed him to the 2nd Bundesliga in 1996/97 . Although he was set as a striker under coach Dragoslav Štepanović , he scored again only 5 goals in 28 appearances. After Eintracht's immediate resurgence failed, he moved back to the 1st Bundesliga for VfB Stuttgart for the new season . There he made 8 appearances in 1997/98 and moved to the then second division club Hannover 96 for the 1998/99 season . This station was not crowned with success (5 appearances), so that after the end of the season he went to league rivals Kickers Offenbach . Back in his homeland, he became a leading player at the Kickers, but could not prevent the relegation of his team in 2000. He followed her to the Regionalliga Süd and played a further 32 times for this club until the 2001/2002 season, until he sustained a serious knee injury on matchday 9 on September 22, 2001 in a duel against the Stuttgarter Kickers . After several months of injury, he found that the injury was too serious and he ended his career.

After his football days he completed an apprenticeship as a mechatronics technician . Today he lives with his wife and two daughters in Frankfurt and has been coaching the FC 1931 Eddersheim regional league team in his spare time since January 2009.

successes

In May 1995, his goal in the game MSV Duisburg against Eintracht Frankfurt on May 27, 1995 in the ARD sports show was voted goal of the month . After a 60-meter solo, he played five opponents and scored the 3-0 for Frankfurt in the 53rd minute.
